We are two moms, in Austin, TX  who have been friends for over 20 years that decided to lean back into our photography backgrounds and have some fun with our passion. We want to be a photography team that makes you feel comfortable because we know that the shooting experience plays a huge part in creating great memories along with great photos.


We made the decision to turn our passion into a business and brought Leigh and Kate Photography to life. Our sessions are fun, full of energy, and organized with an emphasis on making you feel comfortable. We strive to capture the simplicity of moments that become your most treasured memories. While helping you to be at ease with the whole experience our goal is to capture authentic smiles, gazes, seriousness or silliness. We want to capture the real you!

I’m Karen Leigh…

a wife and mother who lives in Austin, TX. I am married to a wonderful man and we have been blessed with an amazing, loving, and funny son. He adds so much joy to our lives and we love every minute with him. Our miniature schnauzer is our second child and is spoiled rotten. I enjoy spending my free time with my family, being outside on adventures, working in the garden and of course photographing.


My grandfather, my Opa, started my photography journey unknowingly when he gave me my first camera in elementary school. I was hooked! I earned a degree in Studio Art from the University of Texas and my Master’s in Early Childhood Education from Texas State. I have been teaching ever since with most of that time spent in Kindergarten. Through the years I have continued my passion for photography, first as a nanny, then a teacher and a mother.


I believe that my experiences provide me with a unique insight into the minds and hearts of small children. I am positive that I teach Kindergarten so that I can still be a kid myself. I LOVE working with kids and meeting new people and I will bring this whimsy and positive energy into each session.

I'm Mary Kate...

a wife and mother who moved back to Austin, TX a few years ago. I am married to wonderful man, we have two teenagers, and two fur babies. We enjoy the outdoors going on bike rides, kayaking, and hiking.


I got hooked on photography in high school when I took a class for fun. This led me to receiving a BA in Photo Communications from St. Edwards University.


Shortly after graduating I meet my husband and our adventure led us to Los Angeles. Living in LA provided many new and exciting opportunities. Working alongside photographers, I learned the skills needed for running a photo shoot from initial vision to completion. I honed my post-production retouching skills for magazine publications. While working for a small fashion house I built out and ran the e-commerce side of the business in addition to running fashion shoots.  


I stepped away from the photography and fashion world when my children were babies because I wanted to focus all of my energy on being their mom. I still continued my passion for photography with my own children and friends.


I LOVE all aspects of photography and will bring my invaluable skills into each session.
